Rogues' Memories of Adventures in Barbados.

Together with his parents, Les and Muriel, Rex Wotton ran the West Coast Watersports center at Coral Reef hotel. It was just a short walk from Settlers Beach. They took hotel guest diving and on daytime and sunset cruises along the coast. He was a professional seafarer trained by the Royal Merchant Navy in all matters of navigation, sailing, diving, explosives, and marine work.

Rex was one of the most loveable Rogues in Paradise. He had an infectious sense of fun and used it to win over every situation. Rex was independent at an early age and often disappeared for days at a time, camping by Joes' river . He built campfires from coconut husk and twigs and cooked his catch with breadfruit, wild herbs, plantain, and edible vines. He ate mangoes, and local berries like fat pork, and sea grapes, that grow along the beach.

He was a powerful high-energy figure at 5 feet 8 inches, well built, with untidy, light-brown hair and piercing blue eyes. Not one for formal exercises; he did not run, jog, push weights, or do any approved gym. Hard work, dynamic play, and managing the West Coast water was his workout. He sailed, taught scuba diving, and was always busy taking care of boats, engines, and gear. He transported people, food, drinks, and scuba gear, from hotels to oceans and had a full schedule of on-the-job workouts. The scuba tanks were substantial, and it was a high-impact sport to load 20 tanks into the old VW van. They had to be unloaded and stacked in the dive shop and later strapped onto guests for the deep dives and shallow water instructions. He was rarely still.
